Louis Vuitton’s autorickshaw handbag takes the internet by storm — couture meets India’s streets

French luxury house Louis Vuitton has once again sparked conversation — and controversy — with its latest accessory: a handbag shaped like an Indian autorickshaw. Part of the brand’s Men’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection, the bag became an instant viral sensation after its reveal, with social media users alternately amused, impressed, and bemused by the playful design.

The collection, led by creative director Pharrell Williams, drew heavily from Indian cultural motifs, celebrating local craftsmanship while infusing it with Vuitton’s signature street-luxe aesthetic. But it was the autorickshaw handbag that stole the show.

Crafted in the brand’s iconic monogram canvas with camel-hued leather handles and even miniature functional-looking wheels, the bag playfully nods to the everyday sights of India’s bustling streets — elevating the humble three-wheeler into couture.

The bag was first shared by the Instagram account ‘Diet Paratha,’ which cheekily captioned its post: “Did this bag just colonise me? Jokingggggg… NRI’s bout to go crazy for this one tho.” The quirky post quickly amassed thousands of likes and comments, with users asking questions like: “Is the pricing by the meter?” and joking about whether the bag came with a meter that refused to start below ₹50.

Though the autorickshaw handbag wasn’t a part of the runway presentation itself, its bold cultural crossover quickly became the collection’s biggest talking point. For some, it was a clever and affectionate homage to India’s street life. For others, it raised familiar questions about appropriation and price versus accessibility.

Regardless of where one lands in the debate, the bag once again underscores Louis Vuitton’s knack for turning everyday objects into high-fashion statements — and keeping the internet talking.
