Meta Verified users on Facebook and Instagram face unexplained bans, sparking outrage

Meta’s premium Verified service — which promises better support, impersonation protection, and verified badges for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp — has left many paying users frustrated after their accounts were banned without explanation.

According to a report by TechCrunch, several Meta Verified subscribers recently had their accounts suspended, despite being legitimate users. Many of these accounts belong to businesses that rely on Meta’s platforms for revenue, and the suspensions have disrupted operations, wiped out saved content, and caused financial losses.

While Meta advertises priority customer support as a key benefit of its Verified plan, affected users report receiving little to no assistance in resolving the bans or restoring their accounts. The company reportedly relies heavily on AI moderation systems, which seem to have mistakenly flagged legitimate accounts as fake or violating policies — a recurring challenge for tech platforms deploying automated checks.

Meta launched Verified for businesses in India last year, offering subscription plans for individual platforms or bundled packages for Facebook and Instagram. Plans are currently available only on iOS and Android, not on desktop.

The incident has raised questions about whether Meta’s support infrastructure is keeping pace with the demands of its paying customers, particularly when premium users expect faster and more effective help than free users.

So far, Meta has not issued a public statement explaining the widespread bans or outlining a clear path for resolution.
