Amazon RDS for Oracle introduces M8i and R8i instances with SE2 License Included
Amazon RDS for Oracle now supports M8i and R8i instances with Oracle SE2 License Included, offering improved performance and a simplified pricing model.
Amazon RDS for Oracle has expanded its offerings with the introduction of M8i and R8i instances, now available with Oracle Database Standard Edition 2 (SE2) under the License Included (LI) model. These instances are equipped with customized Intel Xeon 6 processors, which are exclusive to AWS, delivering top-tier performance and the fastest memory bandwidth among similar Intel processors available in the cloud.
The newly introduced instances provide up to a 15% improvement in price-performance and offer 2.5 times more memory bandwidth compared to the previous generation of Intel-based instances. With Amazon RDS for Oracle SE2 LI, customers benefit from not needing to purchase Oracle licenses and support separately. Instead, the service provides a subscription-based, pay-per-use pricing model that includes the software license, support, compute resources, and a managed database service.
Customers interested in using RDS for Oracle SE2 LI can set up database instances via the AWS Management Console or through the AWS CLI by selecting the LI option. For those looking to reduce costs and streamline their Oracle database operations, further information is available on the AWS blog titled “Rethink Oracle Standard Edition Two on Amazon RDS for Oracle.” Additionally, configuration details for the various instance types can be found on the Amazon RDS for Oracle Instance Types page.
