Amazon VPC IPAM introduces tag support for IPAM pool allocations

Amazon VPC IP Address Manager now supports tagging for IPAM pool allocations, enhancing organization and access control for IP addresses across AWS environments.

Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) IP Address Manager (IPAM) has introduced a new feature that allows users to apply tags to IPAM pool allocations. This enhancement helps users organize, manage, and regulate access to specific IP address allocations using the familiar tagging workflows used with other Amazon Web Services (AWS) resources.

The IP Address Manager (IPAM) in Amazon VPC is a tool designed to assist users in planning, tracking, and overseeing IP addresses throughout their AWS environments. With the recent update, users can now add tags at the time of allocation creation or attach tags to existing allocations. These tags can be utilized in AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) and Service Control Policies, facilitating centralized governance over IP address usage on a large scale.

For instance, a network administrator can tag allocations based on their environment and enforce an IAM policy that permits only those in the production networking role to allocate from the pool. Meanwhile, development teams can be restricted to using pools designated for development. Furthermore, users can search and filter allocations by tag across all IPAM pools, which significantly speeds up the process of finding specific IP address ranges in extensive, multi-account setups.

This new tagging capability is available in all AWS Regions where IPAM is offered, and it is provided at no extra cost. For more detailed information, users can refer to the IPAM User Guide. To begin using IPAM, visit the IPAM console.
