Amazon CloudWatch unveils PromQL querying with Query Studio preview
Amazon CloudWatch has launched Query Studio in public preview, introducing native PromQL querying. This feature allows users to query AWS and OpenTelemetry metrics within a single interface.
Amazon CloudWatch has introduced Query Studio in a public preview, offering a unified platform for querying and visualizing data that now includes native PromQL querying capabilities. This marks the first time PromQL is natively supported within CloudWatch. Query Studio integrates PromQL with CloudWatch Metric Insights, allowing users to query both AWS vended metrics and OpenTelemetry metrics through their preferred language without needing to switch between different consoles.
The Query Studio interface includes a visual form builder equipped with autocomplete, as well as a code editor that features syntax highlighting. This setup is designed to cater to users of all experience levels, from beginners to seasoned professionals. For instance, a team operating applications on Amazon EC2 can now seamlessly correlate their custom OpenTelemetry application metrics with EC2 vended metrics. This capability enables them to promptly identify issues across their infrastructure, set up alarms, or add charts to dashboards directly from their query outcomes.
The public preview of Amazon CloudWatch Query Studio is currently available in several regions: US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Singapore), and Europe (Ireland). Standard pricing for CloudWatch dashboards applies, and further pricing details can be found on the pricing page.
To begin using Query Studio, users can access it from the Metrics console or while editing dashboards within the Amazon CloudWatch console. Additional information is available on the Amazon CloudWatch documentation page.
