Amazon EC2 expands availability of high memory U7i instances to new regions

AWS has expanded its EC2 High Memory U7i instance offerings to more regions, now available in Europe and the US. These instances are ideal for running critical in-memory databases.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the expanded availability of its EC2 High Memory U7i instances across several regions. The U7i-8TB instances, designated as u7i-8tb.112xlarge, can now be accessed in the AWS Europe regions of Stockholm and Zurich. Meanwhile, the U7in-16TB instances, known as u7in-16tb.224xlarge, are now available in the AWS US East (Ohio) region. Additionally, the U7in-24TB instances, identified as u7in-24tb.224xlarge, have been introduced in the AWS Europe (Stockholm) region.

These U7i instances belong to AWS’s 7th generation and are powered by custom fourth-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, also referred to as Sapphire Rapids. The U7i-8TB instances provide 8 TiB of DDR5 memory, while the U7in-16TB and U7in-24TB instances offer 16 TiB and 24 TiB of DDR5 memory, respectively. This enables organizations to efficiently scale their transaction processing capabilities in rapidly expanding data environments.

The U7i-8TB instances are equipped with 448 vCPUs and can support up to 100 Gbps of Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) bandwidth, 100 Gbps of network bandwidth, and Enhanced Networking Adapter (ENA) Express. In contrast, the U7in-16TB and U7in-24TB instances provide 896 vCPUs and support up to 100 Gbps of Amazon EBS bandwidth, 200 Gbps of network bandwidth, and ENA Express, facilitating faster data transfers and backups.

These high memory instances are particularly beneficial for enterprises running critical in-memory databases such as SAP HANA, Oracle, and SQL Server. For further details on U7i instances, interested parties can visit the High Memory instances page on the AWS website.
