UAE authorities refute claims of Golden Visa for crypto investors
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has denied recent claims that individuals investing in cryptocurrencies are eligible for the country’s coveted Golden Visa. The clarification comes after unverified reports circulated online suggesting that digital currency investors were being granted long-term residency under the programme.
In a joint statement, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA), and the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) confirmed that the criteria for Golden Visa issuance are clear, officially approved, and do not include cryptocurrency investment.
According to a Gulf News report, the eligible categories for Golden Visas remain unchanged. These include real estate investors, entrepreneurs, exceptional talent, scientists and specialists, top-performing students and graduates, humanitarian pioneers, and frontline workers — all approved by the relevant authorities.
The ICP emphasised that Golden Visas are granted strictly within a regulated framework and urged the public to disregard misinformation circulating on websites and social media.
The SCA reiterated its adherence to international standards for regulating financial and securities services in the UAE. It clarified that investments in digital currencies fall under separate regulations and have no connection to Golden Visa eligibility. The SCA also called on the public to rely solely on official sources for accurate information.
Similarly, VARA denied issuing Golden Visas to virtual asset investors in Dubai and warned against engaging with unlicensed entities. It specifically noted that a company named “TON” is neither licensed nor regulated by VARA.
VARA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a secure and compliant business environment, working closely with federal and local law enforcement agencies to enforce stringent risk management standards.
The authorities jointly advised the public and investors to verify all visa-related information directly through official government websites and to ignore unverified offers or advertisements found online.
This clarification underscores the UAE’s emphasis on regulated processes and transparent communication as it continues to attract high-quality talent and investment through legitimate channels.
