Amazon MSK introduces Express brokers in Africa and Asia Pacific

Amazon MSK has introduced Express brokers in the Africa (Cape Town) and Asia Pacific (Taipei) regions, enhancing performance and scalability. These brokers offer increased throughput, faster scaling, and reduced recovery times.

Amazon Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (Amazon MSK) has expanded its capabilities by introducing the option to create provisioned clusters with Express brokers in the Africa (Cape Town) and Asia Pacific (Taipei) regions. This development allows users in these regions to benefit from the enhanced performance and scalability that Express brokers provide.

Express brokers represent a new type of broker in the Amazon MSK Provisioned service, offering up to three times the throughput per broker compared to standard Apache Kafka brokers. Additionally, these brokers can scale up to 20 times faster and reduce recovery times by 90%. This makes them an attractive option for businesses seeking efficiency and reliability.

By default, Express brokers are pre-configured with Kafka best practices, ensuring optimal performance. They support all Kafka APIs and maintain the low-latency performance that Amazon MSK users expect, allowing businesses to continue using their existing client applications without needing modifications.

To begin using Express brokers, users can create a new cluster via the Amazon MSK console or the Amazon CLI. For detailed guidance, users are encouraged to consult the Amazon MSK Developer Guide.
