Aws cost explorer introduces natural language query features with Amazon Q

AWS Cost Explorer now features natural language query capabilities powered by Amazon Q, enabling users to easily analyze cost and usage data. This update offers improved cost visibility and faster insights without additional charges.

AWS Cost Explorer has introduced new capabilities powered by Amazon Q Developer’s generative AI, allowing users to integrate natural language queries into their cost analysis processes. With this enhancement, users can now pose questions in plain language to Amazon Q regarding their AWS cost and usage data. Along with receiving answers, users also benefit from automatically updated visualizations within Cost Explorer. This advancement facilitates quicker cost analysis, shortens the time required to gain insights, and improves cost visibility for all team members.

The update includes suggested prompts in Cost Explorer to kickstart cost analysis. These prompts cover frequently asked cost-related questions, such as “Show me my top spending services for this month.” As Amazon Q delivers detailed insights, Cost Explorer concurrently refreshes with corresponding visualizations, filters, and groupings. Users also have the option to ask personalized questions in their own words using the new ‘Ask Question’ feature, enabling an interactive exploration of spending patterns. Cost Explorer dynamically updates charts and tables based on the user’s cost and usage data. When Amazon Q draws insights from additional datasets, such as pricing or anomaly detection, these are displayed in a new artifacts panel within Amazon Q. Users can continue the dialogue with follow-up questions while maintaining context, allowing for a seamless transition from a quick cost overview to an in-depth investigation without needing to switch tools or interrupt their workflow.

The natural language cost analysis feature for AWS Cost Explorer is available now in all commercial AWS Regions at no extra cost. For more information, visit AWS Cost Explorer. To begin using the feature, refer to the user guide.
