Amazon DocumentDB now allows seamless upgrade from version 5.0 to 8.0

Amazon DocumentDB now supports an easy upgrade from version 5.0 to 8.0, enhancing performance and reducing costs, with no additional fees.

Amazon DocumentDB, which offers compatibility with MongoDB, now supports a seamless major version upgrade from version 5.0 to 8.0. This upgrade can be executed with just a few clicks using the AWS Management Console, or through the AWS SDK or AWS CLI, without the need for creating new clusters, altering endpoints, or rebuilding indexes.

Upgrading to version 8.0 brings significant benefits, including enhanced performance and cost efficiency. Query latency can be improved by up to seven times, while storage compression can increase by up to five times, enabling applications to run more efficiently with reduced storage requirements, thereby cutting costs. Additionally, version 8.0 introduces new features such as collation, views, new aggregation stages and operators, improved text search with text index version 2, and vector index builds that are up to 30 times faster.

The in-place major version upgrade from 5.0 to 8.0 is available in all AWS Regions where Amazon DocumentDB 8.0 is offered, with no additional costs involved. For those interested in upgrading, detailed instructions can be found in the in-place MVU documentation. More information about Amazon DocumentDB 8.0 is accessible through the provided documentation.
