Amazon RDS introduces extended support for PostgreSQL minor versions

Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL has launched new Extended Support minor versions to address security issues and bugs. Users are encouraged to upgrade to these versions for enhanced security and stability.

Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) for PostgreSQL has introduced new Extended Support minor versions: 11.22-rds.20260224, 12.22-rds.20260224, and 13.23-rds.20260224. These updates are recommended for users to address known security issues and bugs found in earlier versions of PostgreSQL.

The Amazon RDS Extended Support offers up to three additional years of crucial security and bug fixes after a major version reaches its standard support end date. This extension provides users with more time to transition to a newer major version. Detailed information about Extended Support can be found in the Amazon RDS User Guide.

Database upgrades can be performed during scheduled maintenance windows using automatic minor version upgrades. To streamline operations across large-scale environments, users can enable automatic minor version upgrades and utilize the AWS Organizations Upgrade Rollout Policy. This approach allows for phased upgrades beginning with development environments before progressing to production systems. Additionally, Amazon RDS Blue/Green deployments with physical replication are available to reduce downtime during minor version upgrades.

Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL simplifies the process of setting up, managing, and scaling PostgreSQL deployments in the cloud.
